Everything you need before your first class at ASD Dance.

We welcome children from age 2.5 into our Mini Movers class. Our youngest pupils join a fun, friendly session focused on rhythm, movement, and confidence — no experience needed. Classes run all the way through to adult age, so there's no upper limit either.
Yes. We run a dedicated adult programme on Tuesday evenings at Walderslade: Ballet, Contemporary & Tap (6–7pm), Adult Freestyle Dance & Fitness (7–8pm), and Latin Fitness from 8pm. All abilities are welcome — from complete beginners to those returning after years away. No performance pressure, no experience required.

Please contact Debbie for current fees. Fees are not listed publicly — Debbie will confirm pricing based on the class, age group, and term schedule when you get in touch. Your first lesson is half price, so there's no risk in giving it a try.
Your child's first lesson with ASD Dance is charged at half the normal class rate. There's no commitment, no joining fee, and no obligation to continue. It's just a low-risk way to see whether the class is right for your child before signing up for a term.
Please let Debbie know in advance if you're unable to attend. Missed classes due to illness or short-notice absence are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact Debbie to discuss. Term fees are paid upfront and cover the term's classes, so regular attendance is encouraged to get the most from the programme.
ASD Dance runs from two venues in Medway:
  • Walderslade Girls School Dance Studio — enter via Greenacre School, Chatham. On-street parking is available in the surrounding roads.
  • Parkwood Junior School — Rainham. School car park available outside of school hours.

02 Exams & Qualifications

How qualifications and medals work at ASD Dance.

The International Dance Teachers' Association — one of the UK's leading dance examination and accreditation bodies. IDTA membership means ASD Dance is inspected, regulated, and held to a professional standard. Debbie is IDTA qualified in multiple disciplines, and the school has produced IDTA Scholarship nominees (Top 75 nationally) in both Freestyle and Street Dance.
IDTA medal exams are available for pupils who want them, but they are not compulsory. Pupils progress through IDTA Rosettes and then medal levels assessed by an independent external examiner. Our most recent exam session saw 83 Honours and a 100% pass rate. Many families choose to take exams for the formal recognition; others simply enjoy the classes. Either is fine.
The IDTA Scholarship places pupils in the top 75 in the country in their discipline, assessed by an independent examiner (not the school's own teacher). ASD Dance has produced scholarship nominees in both Freestyle and Street Dance — an achievement most schools never reach in either discipline, let alone both.
For a first session, comfortable sports/dance clothing is fine — anything your child can move freely in. No outdoor shoes on the studio floor. Bare feet, dance socks, or jazz shoes all work depending on the discipline. Once your child has settled in, Debbie will advise on any specific dress requirements for their class or any upcoming exams. Hair should be tied back securely.
Yes, for pupils who are ready. ASD Dance competes at Follow Your Dreams UK Nationals, six years running at Blackpool — as well as regional events throughout the year. The 2026 Essex Regional saw 34 routines entered and 34 qualified. Competition is by invitation from Debbie, not automatic — she'll let you know when a pupil is ready. There's no obligation to compete.
